Friday 15th May

Hello Class One,

It was lovely to see lots of you in our Google Meeting yesterday. We will do it again soon!

This week we are learning around the story of The Very Busy Spider! Have a great time learning at home.

Remember to do what you can (2 hours is plenty- this doesn’t need to be all in one go!) and to learn lots more through your own play too.

Have a lovely day!

Watch the animation of The Very Busy Spider

Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfL0g-XRxnA. Make predictions and talk about the main events, characters and setting as you watch it together. Why can’t the spider stop to answer and play with the animals on the farm? Why did the Spider fall asleep in the end?

Literacy-phonics!

Nursery

First let’s practice our sounds!

Play phoneme pop

Select set 1,2 or 3 sounds to practice. Can you pop the sound that is being called out? http://www.ictgames.com/phonicsPop/index.html

A Listening game

This is great if your child is developing their listening skills and awareness of sounds. Can you guess what is creating the sound?

A blending game

If you would like to have a go at sounding out and blending words together, here is a nice game to try. https://epicphonics.com/games/play/free-cvc-words-featuring-satpinmd

Reception

First let’s practice our sounds!

Flash cards

First let’s practice saying all of the digraphs and trigraphs we have learnt already in phonics, in school so far. You can either use flash cards you have at home, make some flash cards with the letters/sounds on them together, print some off using the documents below or use this link to practice saying them accurately and clearly together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNcBWSBxSp0

Tricky words

Sing the tricky word song here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY

Read some sentences about mini beasts

Use your phonic skills to sound out and blend the words. Can you read the tricky words by sight? Can you read the whole sentence back independently? The document is attached at the bottom of the page and there are lots of sentences to read.

Phonics bug game

Click  Reception, Pupil Games, select either unit 8 or 9 and you can choose to practice sounds, names, reading or spelling.

Letter formation practice for Nursery and Reception

I have recorded a letter formation video for you to help you develop your letter formation at home. It’s quite long so you may want to just practice a few letters at a time. I hope it helps! When you open the link, it can be slow loading. Wait a while and it should start to work.

Maths

All Nursery and Reception children can have a go at completing some of the day 5 Busy Spider themed maths challenges over the next two days.

Here is the link. Click on Summer term- Week 4 (w/c 11th May) and all of the activities for the week will be there. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

Other play based  maths activities for Nursery to work on throughout the week

  • Counting skills-  Draw, make or print off some minibeasts (up to 5, then 10 and extend the number further if your child is confident). Encourage your child to line them up and then touch count them accurately. Can you make a matching number label together?

  • Beginning to recognise numbers- Draw or print numbers on minibeasts (0-5,0-10 and extend further if confident), hide them in the garden and go on a number hunt! Can you recognise the numbers and can you order them together?

Other play based maths activities for Reception to work on throughout the week

  • Order numbers 0-20, then count and draw the matching amount of mini beasts for each number e.g draw 4 ladybirds, 10 spiders and 19 bees. It will be a minibeast number line!

  • Doubling-make a ladybird, place an amount of up to 10 spots on one side, double it and add the same to the other side, how many does it have in total? Double…. is….

  • Sharing- make 2 playdough spiders, use 2, then 4,6,8,10 orange segments, share them fairly between the two spiders. What if there were 5 pieces of orange to share? What if there were 3 or 4 spiders? How would you share a whole cake between 2 spiders? Can you draw a picture to show what you would do to share the cake?

  • Adding and subtracting using lots of practical resources and drawings where you can. Use number stories to help with adding and subtracting e.g One spider had 2 flies and the other had 4 flies, how many altogether? Make the spiders and flies to help set up and solve this. Look at recording as a number sentence together 2 + 4 =

A spider had 5 flies and then it ate 3, how many does it have now? Make or draw a spider, give it 5 flies, subtract the 3 (cross them out/take them). Look at recording as a number sentence together 5 - 3 =

  • 1 more and 1 less- Use a ladybird, count on some spots, what if the ladybird had 1 more? 1 less? 2 more? 2 less?
