School Closure Work 11th May 2020

I’ve tried to include a selection of activities. Please don’t worry if you don’t manage to get through all of the activities or lessons. If you could aim to work for two hours a day, that would be fantastic.

Year 2 - I would like to schedule a Google Meet video call with you on Thursday 14th May at 10.30am to catch up and see how you're getting on. If this works well, I'll schedule a meet in for Year 1 at a later date. Please familiarise yourself with Google Classroom. Our class code is kv6v3ba

Topic:

Uses of materials

Last week we learnt about the properties of materials. This week we’re going to think about what different materials and used for. Some materials are more suitable to jobs than others. Would you make a chair out of wool? Why not?

I’ve tried to include some practical ideas and some worksheets. Just do what you can.

Some suggestions for activities are below:

  1. Upcycling means you are taking things that you would normally put in the bin and making them into something else. Can you find anything around the house to upcycle? You could use coloured bottle lids to make artwork or turn tin cans into plant pots.
  2. Choose 5 objects around the house, write what they are and what they’re made out of. Underneath write or say a silly sentence about this item.

E.g. My chair is made out of wood. It would be silly if my chair was made out of feathers.

  1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOKr462HLc0 A materials song you can sing along to.
  2. There’s a worksheet below which asks children to label the materials needed to make a house.
