Wednesday 6th May

Hello Class One,

I hope you are enjoying our minibeast adventure this week and learning around the story of the Hungry Caterpillar! It has been super to see lots of you having a go at some of the home learning ideas. Keep sending me some photos!

Miss Stroud has been caring for some caterpillars at home! Look out on class dojo for some photos and videos.

Today (Wednesday 6th May) at 10am we have arranged a Google Meet for Class One. Parents please check your emails on advice on how to set up your child's school account. There will be an invite for the Google Meet event sent to your child. We will see you then for a chat and a story!

Instead of flying like an eagle with our home learning this week, let’s fly like a butterfly!

Parents please remember to do what you can (2 hours of our school closure activities is plenty and this does not need to be done all in one go!) and continue to learn through your play.

Read Big, Bad Bug and answer the questions

Then answer the questions:

Healthy eating ideas for you to make at home

I think the Hungry Caterpillar could do with some more healthy snacks! Mr Challinor has shared this website with us. There are lots of healthy eating ideas for you to try out at home together. Here is the link https://getseteatfresh.co.uk/ Can you make some healthy snacks for the Hungry Caterpillar to try? Can you try them first and see which one is your favourite?

Make a rainbow tasting plate!

Explore some foods together!

Choose some fruits and vegetables to explore together. Look at the whole fruit, cut it in half, investigate what’s inside, look at the skin and pick out the seeds. How does each fruit or vegetable feel? Smell? Taste? Look? Can you draw them? Take photos of them? Can you play guess the fruit or vegetable?

The fruit I am thinking of is a sphere shape, it smells delicious, you can squeeze juice from it and it is orange. What is my fruit? Did you guess right...it’s an orange!

Sorting foods!

Can you have a look at the foods in your cupboard at home together. Can you sort them into foods that are healthy and foods that are a treat (and you shouldn't really have too much of!)? Can you pack a healthy lunch box for the Hungry Caterpillar?

Make some fruity smoothies

Set up a fruit and vegetable shop

Can you set up your own fruit and vegetable shop at home? How much will the items cost in your shop? Can you make some price labels? Who will be the shopkeeper and who will be the customer? You will need to write a list before you visit the shop. You will also need some real coins to pay for the items. Nursery can count out some coins in 1ps to make small amounts up to 10p. Reception can count in 2’s to count out some 2p coins to make totals up to 10p and more! They can also use 1p,2p,5p and 10p coins!

“Hello, welcome to the farm shop. What would you like to buy? That costs 10p please.”

A mini beast adventure!

Feelers out! What’s about? Are you ready for a mini beast adventure? Let’s find out some more about caterpillars with Jess! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a75Jqde8k1I

Have a go at Counting Caterpillar!

Can you sequence the numbers? This is a bit of a challenge as some of the numbers will be missing! You can change the numbers using the sliders. Nursery could have a go at sequencing up to 10 with you. Reception challenge yourself and go up to 20, or higher!
