Outdoor Learning is an integral part of what we do at St Mary's. We believe that what the children experience outside the classroom is beneficial to what they do inside. Why not come and take a look at our beautiful surroundings?
The ethos of our outdoor learning is based on a fundamental respect for children and young people and for their capacity to instigate, test and maintain curiosity in the world around them. It believes in children's right to play; the right to access the outdoors (and in particular a woodland environment); the right to access risk and the vibrant reality of the natural world; and the right to experience a healthy range of emotions, through all the challenges of social interaction, to build a resilience that will enable continued and creative engagement with their peers and their potential.
We use our beautiful surroundings whenever possible. Our children are afforded a quality of outdoor education that allows them to flourish as individuals as well as to experience a sense of belonging within our school family.
Every child experiences at least one outdoor learning session a week as well as helping to maintain our gardens, growing fresh produce and looking after our chickens.
